The best day trips from Kochi

Kochi as a base

One of the best reasons to stay in Kochi is how much lies within day-trip reach. The city is the natural gateway to some of Kerala's most loved destinations, and from a central base in Pallimukku you can set off early and be back by evening. Reach Travels can arrange an air-conditioned car with driver for any of these, picked up from your hotel.

Munnar — tea hills

Munnar's rolling, tea-covered hills are one of Kerala's signature sights. It's a scenic drive of a few hours east of Kochi, climbing into the Western Ghats. Expect cool air, sweeping green plantations, viewpoints and waterfalls. It's a long but rewarding day, and many guests choose to stay overnight to make the most of it.

Alappuzha — backwaters

Alappuzha (Alleppey) is the heart of Kerala's famous backwaters, a couple of hours south of Kochi. The classic experience is a houseboat cruise through the palm-lined canals and lagoons. Even a day visit gives you a taste of the slow, waterborne rhythm the region is known for.

Thekkady — spice country

Thekkady, home to the Periyar wildlife sanctuary, is spice-plantation country in the hills. It's a longer drive, so it works best as an overnight or a very early start, but the spice tours, boat rides on Periyar lake and cool forest air are a different side of Kerala from the coast.

Closer to the city

If you'd rather stay close, a Kochi city sightseeing tour takes in Fort Kochi, the Chinese fishing nets, Jew Street, Mattancherry's Dutch Palace, and Marine Drive — a full, satisfying day without leaving the city. Reach Travels runs this as a structured tour.
